Agriculture is how farmers grow food, and after they grow it, they need to harvest, thresh, and winnow to get the clean food ready to eat.
Harvesting
Threshing
Once the crops are gathered, they need to be separated from their stalks or husks. This step is called threshing. Imagine shaking a bag of peas and beans, some fall out while others stay in. Farmers use machines or even animals to shake the plants so the seeds (like wheat grains) come loose.
Winnowing
After threshing, there are still bits of chaff, dirt, and broken stems mixed with the clean grain. That’s where winnowing comes in, it's like blowing away leaves from your garden to leave just the pretty flowers behind. Farmers use wind or fans to blow away the lighter stuff, leaving only the good seeds.
Now you know how farmers go from a big field of plants to clean food ready for cooking! 🌾
