A solar eclipse happens when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, blocking the Sun’s light. It feels like the Sun is hiding behind a giant ball, that’s the Moon! When this happens, it gets dark enough to see stars in the sky during the day, or even see the Sun’s corona, which looks like a glowing halo around the Moon.
Examples
- A solar eclipse is like when a giant ball (the Moon) blocks out the Sun, making it look like night during the day.
- During a solar eclipse, you might see the Sun's glowing edge, that’s called the corona!
- Imagine the Moon slowly covering the Sun like a lid on a jar, that’s how a solar eclipse happens.
