How does a refrigerator cool food?

A refrigerator is like a chilly friend that keeps your food from getting warm and sleepy.

How it works

Inside the fridge, there's something called cold air, just like how you feel cool when you step out of the bath. The fridge has a special part called a freezer, think of it as a cold room where things go to sleep for longer. When you open the fridge door, warm air from the room comes in and meets the cold air inside. This is like when you pour hot chocolate into a glass, the hot one makes the glass feel warmer.

The cool trick

The fridge uses a cooling machine (like a tiny ice maker) that moves heat out of the fridge and sends it to the back, where it becomes warm air. You can sometimes feel this warm air coming out from the back of the fridge, it's like when you take an ice cube out of the freezer and it starts to melt.

So every time you open your fridge, it’s working hard to keep your food happy and chilly! 🥶
