A city is like a big group of friends deciding who gets to be on the honor roll, but for streets!
Who Gets to Be on the Honor Roll?
When a city wants to name a street after someone, it usually picks people who have done something really special. Think of them like your favorite teacher or a superhero who helps people every day. Maybe they helped build the city, made everyone laugh with their stories, or even saved lives. The city looks at these people and says, “We want to remember you forever!”
How They Pick the Name
Sometimes the city has a special group, like a committee, that meets to talk about who should get named on a street. Other times, it’s just a few people in charge of the city who decide together, like parents picking out a nickname for their child.
Once they pick someone, they give the street that person’s name, and everyone can walk by it every day as a reminder, just like you might have a favorite spot on your playground.
