A city becomes the capital of a country when people decide it’s the best place to run things from, just like choosing your favorite room to be the main playroom in your house.
Imagine you and your friends are playing "kingdom" in your neighborhood. You all agree that the capital is where the king or queen lives and makes decisions for everyone else. At first, maybe it's your backyard, but as more people join the game, you need a bigger place to play. So you choose the biggest house on the street, because it has more rooms, better toys, and can fit all your friends comfortably.
That’s what happens in real life too! A city becomes the capital when leaders think it's the best spot for government buildings, like where they meet, make rules, and help people. Sometimes a capital is chosen because it’s in the middle of the country so everyone can reach it easily, just like choosing the middle room in your house as the main playroom.
Sometimes, though, a city becomes the capital not because it's the biggest or most convenient, but because leaders decide to move there, just like you might all agree to change the main playroom to a bigger one.
Examples
- The government moves, and suddenly everyone knows the city by name.
- A city becomes a capital because it's in a good spot for trade and travel.
