There are three ideal types of authority, think of them like three different kinds of bosses at a playground.
The Boss Who Says "Do It Because I Say So"
This is the traditional authority boss. They have a shiny badge, and everyone knows they're in charge because their dad was also the boss before them. You don’t question them, you just do what they say, like cleaning your chalk drawings because that’s the rule.
The Boss Who Says "Do It Because I Know More Than You"
This is the charismatic authority boss. They’re not the most popular kid on the block, but when they speak, everyone listens. Maybe they’ve already mastered the art of jumping rope in 10 seconds or can solve a puzzle no one else has seen. You follow them because you think they're super smart, like following your favorite teacher during storytime.
The Boss Who Says "Do It Because We All Agreed on the Rules"
This is the rational-legal authority boss. They don’t shout or have cool tricks, but they know all the rules of the game, and everyone agrees to them. If you break a rule, like taking extra marbles from the pile, there’s a fair way to fix it. It's like having a vote at recess: we all agree, so we all follow the plan.
These are just three kinds of bosses, or leaders, that help keep everything running smoothly in your favorite places! There are three ideal types of authority, think of them like three different kinds of bosses at a playground.
