People used clever thinking and what they could see around them to guess things that would happen later, just like when you try to figure out which toy will fall first if you drop two together.
How It Worked Like a Puzzle
Long ago, some people watched the sky and saw patterns in how stars moved. They used these patterns to know when seasons would change or when special events might come. It was like predicting that tomorrow’s weather will be sunny because today's clouds are moving away, except they were doing it with stars!
Using What You Know
Imagine you have a clock that ticks every hour, and you notice the sun always sets about 6 hours after it rises. So if you see the sun rise at 7 in the morning, you might guess it will set around 1 o’clock, just like knowing your favorite show comes on after dinner.
These ancient people used clues from nature to make good guesses about what would happen next, and sometimes those guesses were spot-on!
