How Do We Know When It’s Time to Go to Sleep?

We use signals from our body to know when it’s time to go to sleep, just like we use signals from our tummy to know when it's time to eat.

How Our Body Tells Us It's Time for Bed

Our body has a kind of clock inside us, called the biological clock, that helps tell us when we should be awake and when we should be asleep. This clock works like a timer in your favorite toy, it counts down, and when it hits zero, you know it's time for bed.

When the sun goes down, our body gets a signal to start winding down, just like how you might get tired after playing all day. Our eyes see less light, which helps tell our brain that it’s time to relax and prepare for sleep.

What Happens When We’re Tired

When we are tired, our body sends out another signal, a kind of "I need rest" message. This is like when you're playing with your favorite toy and then suddenly feel sleepy after a long day at the park.

So, when both signals come together, the sun going down and our body feeling tired, we know it’s time to go to sleep!
