How Do We Know We’re Tired?

We know we’re tired when our body and brain send us signals that tell us it’s time to rest.

Imagine your body is like a toy car, when you play with it all day, it goes vroom-vroom for a while. But after a while, the toy car starts to slow down because it doesn’t have enough energy left. Your brain feels the same way, it’s like a superhero who has been running and jumping nonstop. After a while, it needs a break too.

How our body tells us we’re tired

Your body sends out signals, just like your toy car might make a beep-beep sound when it needs to recharge. These signals come from special messengers in your blood called hormones. One of them is called cortisol, which helps you stay awake during the day. When it gets low, you feel sleepy.

Another signal comes from something called adenosine, which builds up in your brain when you’re busy or active. It’s like a sleepy little friend who says, “Hey, time to rest!”

When these signals all come together, beep-beep, tired brain, and sleepy friend, you know it’s finally time for nap time! 🛌
