How do substances change?

Substances change when they become something new, just like how ice becomes water when it gets warm.

Imagine you have a big block of ice, and you leave it outside on a sunny day. As the sun shines on it, the ice starts to melt, it turns into water. That’s one kind of change: from solid to liquid.

If you put water in the freezer, it can turn back into ice, just like how your juice gets slushy when it freezes. So, heat can make things melt, and cold can make them freeze.
