Our eyes have two types of special cells that help us see. In the light, one type helps us see colors and details, like when you’re playing outside during the day. But in the dark, another type of cell wakes up to help us see shapes and movement, just like a night vision camera.
Examples
- You can spot your dog moving around at night, even if you can't see its face clearly.
- You can tell someone is walking by in the dark, but not read a message on their phone.
- You know it's raining outside when you're asleep, because you can see the lights of passing cars.
