Human cells divide and reproduce by splitting into two new cells, just like a cookie being split into two halves.
How Cells Split in Half
Imagine you have a cookie that’s full of chocolate chips, each chip is like a part of the cell. When the cookie splits into two smaller cookies, each one still has some chocolate chips, just not as many as before. That's what happens to a cell when it divides.
First, the cell makes copies of all its important parts, like making extra chocolate chips. Then, it grows bigger, like a cookie that gets a little larger before being split. Finally, the cell splits into two equal halves, and now you have two brand-new cells!
Why Cells Divide
Cells divide so that your body can grow or heal. If you get a scrape on your knee, new skin cells need to come in and fix it up, just like how a cookie can be split into two cookies when needed.
Sometimes, the cell divides over and over again, helping you grow from a tiny baby into a big kid!
