Long ago, there was a giant crash between Earth and another planet-sized object. This made debris fly out into space, and eventually, that debris came together to form the moon! The moon now pulls on Earth with gravity, which makes our oceans rise and fall, we call this tides. Without the moon, our days would be shorter, and life might look very different.
