People used things around them to know when it was time for something. Like the sun, when it went down, it was nighttime! They also watched how shadows changed and counted days by the moon. Some people even used fires that burned for a long time to mark time during the night.
Examples
- A tribe used the full moon to celebrate a special night every month.
- Children counted hours by how long their campfire burned.
