Fingerprints are like tiny fingerprints that help us know who we are, just like a special ID card on our fingers!
What Makes Fingerprints?
When you're born, your skin is already full of little hills and valleys. These shapes are called ridges and valleys, and they’re really special because no two people have the same ones.
Think of your finger as a mountain with lots of small hills, these hills are the ridges. When you touch something, like a glass or a toy, those ridges leave behind little marks, just like when you press your hand on play-doh and it leaves an imprint!
How They Stay Forever
Your skin is made up of layers, and deep inside, there's something called the dermis, which is like the skin’s strong base. The ridges come from this layer, so even if your skin changes, when you get older or get a little cut, your fingerprints stay the same.
So, every time you touch something, you're leaving behind a tiny message, your fingerprint! And that's why police officers can find out who touched something by looking at those little messages. Fingerprints are like tiny fingerprints that help us know who we are, just like a special ID card on our fingers!
