There are more Americans who were killed at schools than those who were killed while serving in the military this year.
Imagine you're playing a game with your friends in the schoolyard, and suddenly someone brings out a big toy sword and starts swinging it around, that's like what happened in some schools. A few people got hurt really badly, and some even died. It was pretty scary!
Now imagine another group of kids who are far away, maybe on a different island or in another country. They're fighting with other groups, using real weapons. That’s what happens in the military, people get hurt or die because they’re fighting.
This year, more people died at schools than those who were fighting in the military. It's like if 5 of your friends got hurt during a game, and only 4 got hurt while playing a different game across town.
Sometimes scary things happen close to home, and that can be just as important as what happens far away!
