David Hume was a smart person who thought about how we know things and why we believe them.
Imagine you're playing with building blocks. You stack them up, and they stay standing because you push them together just right. Now imagine someone says, "What if the blocks just happen to stay up? What if tomorrow they all fall down?" That’s like what David Hume did, he questioned things we usually take for granted.
The Questioner
Hume loved asking big questions like:
- How do we know something is true?
- Why do we believe things are going to happen the same way every day?
He was like a detective looking at clues. He noticed that people often think tomorrow will be just like today, but what if it isn’t?
The Thinker
Hume also thought about why we feel certain emotions, like happiness or sadness. He believed our feelings come from experiences, not some invisible force pushing us around.
So David Hume was a thinker who made people stop and think, just like you might when you wonder if your tower of blocks will stand forever.
