Can the CEO role be shared?

A CEO is like the leader of a big group of friends who all work together, and sometimes that job can be done by more than one person.

Imagine you and your best friend both want to be the captain of your team during recess. Instead of picking just one, you decide to share the job. You take turns being the captain, or maybe you both make decisions together when needed. That’s what happens when a CEO role is shared in a company.

How sharing works

Sometimes two people can have the CEO role at the same time. Like how your mom and dad both help run your house, they might make different kinds of decisions, but they're both important. In a company, two CEOs could work together to make big choices, like deciding which game to play or where to go for lunch.

Other times, one person might be the CEO, but another person can step in if something goes wrong, kind of like how your teacher helps you when the class gets too noisy. That’s like having a back-up CEO. A CEO is like the leader of a big group of friends who all work together, and sometimes that job can be done by more than one person.
