Diplomacy is like trying to share your toys so you and your friend can both play happily, without fighting.
Imagine you and your best friend are arguing over who gets to use the swing first at recess. You both want it, and it looks like a big argument might start. That’s kind of what's happening between the U. S. and Iran, but instead of swings, they're fighting about money, power, and places in the world.
Now imagine you both take a deep breath and say, “Okay, let’s talk this out.” That’s diplomacy, it means trying to find a way for both sides to be happy without arguing or even fighting. Sometimes that works, like when you agree to take turns on the swing.
But sometimes one of you still wants more than the other, and the argument starts again. Right now, the U. S. and Iran are like kids who haven’t quite figured out how to share, but if they keep talking, maybe peace can happen instead of war.
Examples

- Two friends argue about who gets the last cookie, but they agree to share.
- A teacher helps two students find a way to be fair.
