Can blood transfusions be used as a source of hydration?

Blood transfusions are not usually used to get hydration, but they can help a little bit.

Think of your body like a water bottle. When you're thirsty, you drink water, that's how you stay hydrated. A blood transfusion is more like giving someone extra juice for their body, it helps when they’re low on blood, not water.

Like Giving Juice Instead of Water

Imagine you have a friend who spilled all their juice and needs some more to feel strong again. You give them another cup of juice, that’s like a blood transfusion. It helps them feel better, but it doesn’t really fill up their empty water bottle.

On the other hand, if your friend is just thirsty, they’d much rather drink water than have extra juice.

Sometimes Juice Helps with Thirst Too

If someone is very sick and needs both blood and water, a blood transfusion can help them feel better, it's like giving them some juice while also letting them drink water. But for regular hydration, water or drinks are much easier and more fun!
