A mountain can turn into a volcano if something inside it starts to bubble and burst like a fizzy drink.
Imagine your favorite chocolate bar, solid and sweet. Now think of the mountain as that chocolate bar, but deep inside, there’s a hot, bubbly mixture called magma. Just like how a fizzy drink can explode when you shake it up, if something shakes or heats the magma inside the mountain, it might start to come out.
What makes a mountain become a volcano?
Sometimes, underground movements, like tectonic plates pushing together, give the magma a kick. It’s like giving your fizzy drink a big shake! Then the magma rises up through cracks in the mountain and comes out as lava, making it a volcano.
If you've ever seen a cake with layers, imagine the mountain is the top layer, and the volcano is the cake with lava oozing out, both are made from the same ingredients, but one is just more excited inside!
Examples
- Imagine a mountain with lava flowing from its top, that's a volcano in the making.
- When tectonic plates move, they can cause mountains to shift and become volcanoes.
