What Are Cognitive Functions?
Cognitive functions are the special tools your brain uses to do its job. Think of them like different buttons on a toy remote control, each button does something fun!
- Memory is like a little robot inside your head that stores stuff, like your favorite song or where you left your backpack.
- Attention is like being able to listen closely when Mom is talking, even if the TV is on in the background.
- Problem-solving is like figuring out how to get your toy car unstuck from under the couch, it takes a little thinking and some trying!
How Cognitive Functions Work Together
Your brain uses all these tools together, just like you use your hands and legs to run or draw. If one tool isn’t working as well as it should, it’s like having only one leg, you can still move, but it might take longer.
Sometimes, your brain needs a little extra help, like a special snack or a good night's sleep, so all its tools can work their best!
Examples
- A child remembers the steps to solve a math problem.
- An adult focuses on driving while ignoring distractions.
- Someone recognizes a friend's face instantly.
