1 - What is an emotion?

Emotions are like feelings that pop up inside you when something happens, just like how your face lights up when you get a hug from someone you love.

Imagine you're eating your favorite ice cream. It's cold, sweet, and makes your tongue happy. That’s joy, an emotion. Now imagine you trip over a rock and scrape your knee. Ouch! You feel pain, another emotion, it's like your body is saying, "Hey, that was not fun!"

What Emotions Do

Emotions help you understand what's happening around you. They're like little helpers inside your brain. When you see a big, scary dog running toward you, you might feel fear, which makes you run away or hide, just like when you hide behind the couch from a vacuum cleaner.

How Emotions Work

Your body sends messages to your brain about what's happening. Your brain then decides how you should feel and what you should do. It’s like having a team of friends who tell you, "You're happy!" or "Be ready, something might be coming!"

So emotions are just feelings that help you know what's going on inside you, and they make life interesting!
